Extremely well-maintained mid-century home by the same family for 50 years! Remodeled in 2016, this pristine home is on the beautiful, peaceful, tree-lined loop known as Mears Court. This house is a great place for professionals and children to thrive.
It is a wonderful neighborhood intertwined with walking paths, half a block from Nixon Elementary School and just around the corner from the Stanford Dish hiking trail. The Stanford Campus Recreation Association (SCRA) is a couple of blocks away, an excellent asset for swimming and tennis.
This light-filled two-story home is bright, welcoming, and functional. The soaring ceilings in the living room make the space feel even more significant than it is. It is bright, airy, and designed with an excellent flow for entertaining family and friends. The midcentury modern feel of the house has been preserved with round hanging light fixtures and Japanese-inspired interior railings.
The loft sitting room or office space overlooks the living room. The walls painted Decorators White downstairs contribute to the light and fresh feel. The ceilings painted with semi-gloss paint reflect light from the windows and lamps. Beautiful dark wood beam ceilings are spectacular against the white tops and add to the mid-century aesthetic. Electric sunshades on the high windows are easy to open and close.
All professionals need an office, and the loft area makes an ideal balcony office with an exterior porch and a large closet for storing papers and files. The office overlooks the backyard, and the trees and shrubs create a “tree house” feel upstairs.
The dining area adjacent to the kitchen and living room creates a warm connection while hosting dinners and events. Sliding glass doors provide access to the back patio and verdant landscaping. Over the years, there have been many large parties, and both the front and rear patios were the perfect place for barbecues, effortless entertaining, and peaceful relaxation as a family.
The beautifully custom-designed kitchen is a cook’s delight with gorgeous granite countertops, a breakfast bar, and a unique marble backsplash. A pantry closet with large shelves and excellent cabinet storage is perfectly designed to store cutting boards, sheet pans, and a pullout shelf for a stand mixer. Clean-lined cabinetry features partial glass and solid doors, providing function and aesthetic value. The six-year-old GE Café refrigerator is counter depth and has French doors and a pullout bottom freezer.
The family room just off the kitchen has sliding glass doors leading out to the wrap-around garden path. A third bathroom conveniently services the downstairs areas.
The sizeable primary bedroom with a walk-in closet is set away from the other two bedrooms, allowing for privacy. The ensuite bathroom has triple medicine cabinets for plenty of storage behind a large mirror, granite countertops with double sinks, a walk-in shower with a seat, and a luxurious electric towel warmer.
The hall bathroom with a laundry area services the other two bedrooms. It has a large vanity with double sinks and a shower over the tub.
The dual high-efficiency gas furnaces and center AC upstairs make it easy to control the temperature upstairs and down. Installation of an “eco-roof” (white mineral-coated roof) dramatically cools the attic and makes it easy to keep the house cool in summer. All double-pane casement windows provide sound protection, warmth, and lots of air when open.
The exterior has been recently landscaped with many drought-tolerant plants and all automatic underground irrigation – no lawn to maintain! The garden is designed so that something blooms year-round. Several locations have drip irrigation tubing for potted plants connected to the automatic irrigation system. There is a covered utility area for disposal bins and garden tools.
The house was upgraded twice for earthquake safety. The carport was enclosed with shear walls and supported by two 8 ft steel beams. The main two-story interior fence was secured to concrete in the crawl space and covered with shear walls behind the wallboard.
A second, 4-year-old refrigerator in the garage is excellent for storing drinks and extra groceries.
This is a beautiful and well-cared-for home ready to welcome its new owners!

The city’s location next to the Stanford University campus gives residents easy access to lectures, extension courses, and other educational opportunities.
The city of about 66,000 incorporated in 1894 and got its name from a 1,000-year-old redwood tree along San Francisquito Creek. Palo Alto residents are highly educated, with nearly 80 percent of those 25 and older holding at least a bachelor’s degree, according to 2013 United States Census Bureau estimates. The median household income is $122,532. Forbes ranked Palo Alto's 94301 ZIP code 24th on its 2014 list of Most Expensive ZIP Codes, with a median home sales price of $3,525,837.
Open-space areas account for nearly one-third of the approximately 25-square-mile city, which boasts more than 30 municipal parks. Only residents and their guests may access the 1,400-acre Foothills Park on Page Mill Road. The city has one of the most active downtowns on the Peninsula, and an array of restaurants and shops line University Avenue and California Avenue. The Stanford Shopping Center is also a popular destination for retail and dining. Free parking is available in municipal lots downtown.
